Bristol Rovers and Gillingham linked with former Sunderland striker

Bristol Rovers have been named as one of a number of sides interested in landing French striker Mikael Mandron.

HITC Sport reports free agent Mandron is a target for Scottish Premiership side Hearts and League One duo Gillingham and Bristol Rovers.

Mandron, 24, has Premier League experience from his time at Sunderland.

The forward moved to England in 2011, switching from French side AC de Boulogne-Billancourt to join Sunderland's U18s and going on to progress into the senior squad.

During his time at the Black Cats he made three Premier League appearances as a substitute before leaving in 2016 to join Eastleigh.

Rovers of course have strong ties with Eastleigh having signed full back Josh Hare from the National League club just this week with Joe Partington going in the other direction, returning to his former side.

The likes of Sam Matthews spending spells on loan at the club in 2018/19.

Mandron's spent just half a season at the Spitfires scoring 10 goals in 28 league appearances before earning a move to Championship side Wigan Athletic on the January transfer deadline day in 2017.

But he played just three games in the Championship before moving on in the summer to League Two Colchester in the summer of 2017.

The Frenchman scored 12 goals in 95 appearances for Colchester but it was his overall performances that caught the eye at the club.

The forward did however only net twice last season in 41 appearances, with four assists. Hardly stunning stats.

According to the report Edinburgh side Hearts are in the market for a big target man this summer while both Rovers and the Gills are looking to improve their attacking options.

Mandron is a physical presence standing at 6ft 3in making him a decent target man up top.
