Bristol riots: Police say there was "no intention to mislead" on injuries

Police chiefs say there was "no intention to mislead" after they issued an update on officers' injuries at Sunday night's riots.

Police bosses initially reported that two officers suffered broken bones at the scene of the violence.

However, a later update said that there were no fractures to bones.

In a tweet, Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "Our initial information suggested two officers had broken bones.

"Thankfully the injuries – while still serious – did not involve fractures.

"We believed the information had been verified but it had not, and while we apologise for that there was no intention to mislead."

Avon and Somerset Police has launched a major investigation into assaults against 40 officers and one journalist.

Today (Friday), another protest is taking place in Bristol with police in attendance.

It is the third demo this week against controversial new legislation that is proposed by the Government.

Police and city leaders have called on people not to attend today's event, and some 22 of Bristol's top figureheads have put their names to a statement condemning Sunday's rioters, and saying those involved do not speak for, or represent Bristol or Bristolians.
