Bristol restaurant The Cauldron says it will not reopen until there is a vaccine for Covid-19

A restaurant in Bristol has said it will not reopen for dine-in customers until there is a vaccine for Covid-19.

Many restaurants across the UK welcomed customers for the first time in more than three months on Saturday (July 4), after lockdown restrictions were eased.

But some, including The Cauldron in St Werburgh's, believe it is still too soon to do so despite the Government giving the green light.

In a statement shared the day before many restaurants reopened, its owner said it would be "irresponsible" to reopen with the pandemic still not over.

The post reads: "We have taken the decision to not re-open as a sit down restaurant until there is a vaccine in place for COVID 19.

"We believe we have a responsibility to help protect our staff and community from the virus and feel it would be irresponsible to have groups of people dine in a small enclosed space like ours during the pandemic."

The decision was met with praise and support by fans of the restaurant.

One person described the call as "commendably rational and correct" while another added it was a "very good and responsible decision".

Despite not reopening its inside seating area just yet, The Cauldron's top notch food can still be enjoyed as it has been running a takeaway service throughout lockdown.

People pick up wood-fired sourdough pizzas on Wednesdays, fish and chips on Fridays and roast dinners on Sundays.

At weekends on-the-go diners can also grab BBQ burgers and hot dogs from the Mina Road restaurant, with both meaty and vegan options.
