Bristol restaurant responds to Tripadvisor claim it prioritises Deliveroo over dine-in customers

A popular restaurant in Bristol doesn't believe a rising demand for takeaway orders has affected the time dine-in customers have to wait for their food.

Vietnamese restaurant Pho in Clare Street often has Deliveroo riders waiting outside to pick up orders, and one customer recently claimed on TripAdvisor that they had to wait longer to get served due to the number of delivery orders the restaurant was receiving.

The user, writing under the name Tokou2016, wrote: “Although the food servers were generally polite, I had to wait a long time for my meal to arrive.

“To be told that I had to wait as there are lots of delivery orders is, in my opinion, not fair.

“If they want to prioritise delivery orders then close the restaurant for dine in and focus on delivery service only or devise a system so dine in customers don’t have to suffer waiting for their food.”

Not only are restaurants across the UK experiencing increased demand for takeaways, but many are struggling to find enough staff to meet the demand amid the hospitality staffing crisis.

But Pho is confident the success of its delivery service does not negatively impact diners at its Bristol restaurant, despite the Tripadvisor review suggesting otherwise.

A spokesperson for Pho said: "We’ve absolutely had an increase for demand of delivery Pho to Go but thankfully for us, as we’ve been partners with Deliveroo since we opened in Bristol quite a few years ago, it has not negatively impacted customers in the restaurants, because we’ve had systems in place for a while.

"Our Deliveroo orders are integrated with our tills and go straight to the kitchen and we have a great system for packing orders and rider pick-ups etc.

"Of course this does mean we usually require more staff to help with takeaway on busy shifts, so we don’t believe this has negatively impacted our dine-in customers at all. "
