Bristol restaurant reopens after Covid-19 scare

A Bristol restaurant which closed last week following a coronavirus scare has reopened.

Three Brothers Burgers on Welsh Back shut temporarily on Wednesday (September 2) after a friend of the chef's girlfriend tested positive for the virus.

The restaurant's operations director said the link to the infected person was "tenuous", but did not want to risk contamination so decided to close and send all employees for tests.

On Friday (September 4) the restaurant was able to reopen after all tests were returned negative.

The news was announced on Three Brothers' Facebook page.

The announcement read: "Three Brothers Burgers will be open as normal from 12pm today after closing on Wednesday due to a potential COVID-19 infection.

"The staff in question have now had their test results which have all come back as negative.

"The restaurant and kitchen have been cleaned and sanitised. Welcome Back."

Three Brothers found out it had been awarded the AA's Covid Confident seal of approval on Wednesday - the day on which it was forced to close due to the potential risk.

The certificate gives customers assurance an establishment has the necessary risk assessments, safety measures and staff training in place to reopen safely following the enforced period of closure.

Ahead of Three Brothers' reopening all employees had to go through a safety induction and there are new, rigorous procedures in place around cleaning, hand washing and social distancing.

As the person who tested positive is an association of staff and not a direct employee or customer, the Covid Track and Trace System did not apply and the restaurant instead had to carry out its own investigation.
