Bristol region sees higher rise in Covid cases as almost 100 test positive

Another 97 people in the Bristol region have tested positive for Covid.

This figure includes 44 cases in the city itself and 53 in surrounding areas, the latest daily figures show on Thursday (March 11).

The rise of 97 across the four local authorities in the region is higher than Wednesday's 62.

The city of Bristol's Covid rate per 100,000 people is 48.3, after 224 infections were recorded between February 27 to March 6.

South Gloucestershire - which today saw another three cases of the Brazil variant confirmed - has an infection rate of 39.3, North Somerset 35.8, and Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES) 28.5.

The only new Covid-related death in the region was confirmed in B&NES.

Here is the total number of cases in each part of the region, with the latest daily increase in brackets.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 8,070 (+7)
  • Bristol: 29,870 (+44)
  • North Somerset: 9,786 (+20)
  • South Gloucestershire: 14,733 (+26)

The Government confirmed another 138 Covid deaths in England today, bringing the nation's total to 110,165.

The nation saw a rise of 5,744 cases, meaning the total is now 3,713,743.
