Bristol region records 380 new coronavirus cases and one further death

Another death linked to Covid-19 has been recorded in the Bristol region and a further 380 cases have been reported in the past 24 hours.

The death was recorded in South Gloucestershire - and the new cases bring the total number in Bristol, North Somerset and the City of Bristol since the pandemic began to 99,258.

Bristol city recorded 192 new infections, while South Gloucestershire recorded 110 and North Somerset 78, according to the latest official figures published by Public Health England on Tuesday (August 31).

Bristol’s total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic currently sits at 54,748.

Nationally, the Government said a further 50 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 132,535.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 156,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 32,181 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 54,748 (+192)

  • North Somerset - 17,327 (+78)

  • South Gloucestershire - 27,550 (+110)

The total number of deaths recorded in each region, with any increase in brackets, is as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 506 (-)

  • North Somerset - 323 (-)

  • South Gloucestershire - 365 (+1)
