Bristol region continues to see rise in confirmed coronavirus cases

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Bristol region is continuing to rise, latest figures published by the Government on Tuesday afternoon show.

This comes after data showed Bristol and surrounding areas have seen a rise of 20 estimated active coronavirus cases in less than a week.

The data, from King's College London, says Bristol has 709 symptomatic cases per million people (as of July 20) while the South West's coronavirus growth rate rose last week.

In Bristol, three new cases have been confirmed since Bristol Live last reported figures on Monday (July 20) bringing the city's total to 1,303.

Nationally, 445 positive lab tests were recorded on Tuesday, bringing the UK's total to 295,817.

North Somerset has seen an increase of one to 905 while South Gloucestershire has seen an increase of two cases to 750.

Bath and North East Somerset's is the only area not to have seen an increase, with the total number of confirmed cases remaining at 341.

No deaths have been reported at either of Bristol's hospital trusts over the past few days.

The University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) trust, which runs both the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital, has reported 151 coronavirus patients have died during the pandemic.

North Bristol Trust, which runs Southmead Hospital, has recorded 119 patient deaths since the start of the pandemic, the most recent of which was on June 22.

Nationally, 45,422 deaths have been recorded following a daily rise of 110.
