Bristol recycling centre Easter opening times: when the tips are open over the bank holiday weekend

Spring is upon us, bringing the smells of the flowers, the first warm sun of the year, and, with Easter around the corner, an opportunity to finally clear out the clutter that's been driving you round the bend since Christmas.

Of course, since Easter's long weekend brings not one, but two bank holidays, some services, such as the local tips, might not be available to us, making that spring clean a little more tricky. Plus, Bristol City Council and Bristol Waste have emergency queuing measures in place to maintain social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

So when can you go to the tip in Bristol over Easter, and where are the recycling centres?

Where are Bristol's tips and recycling centres?

Bristol has two tips for general waste and recycling:

  • St Philips Reuse and Recycling Centre Folly Lane, off Days Road, St Philips, Bristol, BS2 0QS

  • Avonmouth Reuse and Recycling Centre Kings Weston Lane, Avonmouth, Bristol, BS11 0YS

There are dozens of smaller recycling centres at supermarkets and other designated spots. Find your closest recycling centre on the council's website.

Bristol tip opening hours over Easter

Bristol's tips are open every day over Easter, from 8am to 4:15pm. However, because of the pandemic and the need to maintain social distancing and reduce queues, you can only go on specific days, determined by the last number of your vehicle's number plate.

Date Odd/Even number plate Date Odd/Even number plate
Monday 29 March Even Monday 5 April Odd
Tuesday 30 March Odd Tuesday 6 April Even
Wednesday 31 March Even Wednesday 7 April Odd
Thursday 1 April Odd Thursday 8 April Even
Friday 2 April Even Friday 9 April Odd
Saturday 3 April Odd Saturday 10 April Even
Sunday 4 April Even Sunday 11 April Odd

As an example, if your number plate is RL34 JGS or PRIV8 A0, your last number would be even; if your number plate is GJ25 HJK or PRIV8 A3, your last number would be odd.

The council is also asking people to have sorted and bagged their waste before they arrive, in order to cut down on the amount of time you need to spend at the tip and allow others in sooner.

It's also worth remembering that only cars, small vans, Blue Badge holders, and campervans with fixed seats in the back are allowed into the dumps; anything bigger than a small van will be refused entry. Small vans will need a permit.

Finally, it's worth checking how busy it is before you leave for the tip. You can do this by viewing Bristol Waste's live queue cameras here.
