Bristol pub which idolises Hollywood star Nicolas Cage to close just before Christmas

A quirky pub in Bristol will close just before Christmas, its landlady has revealed.

The Three Tuns in Hotwells is loved by many for its first rate service, decent selection of beers and welcoming atmosphere.

But the way in which it idolises Hollywood star Nicolas Cage is what really sets it apart from other pubs in the city.

Cage has become something of a cult hit after featuring in the likes of Face/Off, National Treasure, Con Air and The Rock - and he's certainly popular among staff at the St George's Road boozer.

Their obsession with the 55-year-old began a few years ago when bartenders Simon Calcraft and Laurie Dix hid pictures of him around the pub for customers to find.

Laurie then brought in a cardboard cutout of him given to her as a birthday present to proudly display in the window, which became an instant hit with regulars.

And in July last year they took their love of Cage to new heights by dedicating the pub's sign to him, portraying him as a Napoleonic-era general staring moodily into the distance.

But the shrine to the much maligned actor will call last orders for the final time on December 23, announced landlady Jenna Graves, who is now running the newly-opened Cloak & Dagger on Cheltenham Road.

In a post on the pub's Facebook page, she wrote: "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have to make this announcement.

"As of Sunday 23rd December our doors will be closing until further notice.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all of the good times we have had together.

"My memories of this pub will always be great, especially working with the other local publicans and feeling like a family unit with the customers.

"Over the years we have raised over £2,000 for local charities and have had community spirit.

"We’ve had great music, marriage proposals, Jeremy Corbyn, Nicholas Cage and most importantly provided a safe and loving environment for all of our customers."

More information about Jenna's new venture, The Cloak and Dagger, can be found on its website.
