Bristol pub which closed just before Christmas to reopen under new owner

A well-liked pub in Bristol which closed just before Christmas will reopen under a landlord with serious pedigree.

The Three Tuns pulled its final pint on December 23 as its former landlady Jenna Graves wants to focus on her new bar on Cheltenham Road.

But regulars at the Hotwells boozer will be delighted to hear it is set to reopen as soon as this Friday (January 3) thanks to a man who already owns three popular pubs in the city.

Stephen Wallace is at the helm of The Golden Guinea in Redcliffe, The Steam Crane in Southville and The Rising Sun in Bedminster, which he transformed at the start of the year.

When he heard Jenna was calling time at the bar at The Three Tuns, he knew it was an opportunity he could not resist.

"I know Jenna and have even pulled pints at The Three Tuns before," he said.

"It's a fantastic pub with a good set of regulars and decent events.

"I plan to not only continue the events but increase the number of them, and would like to host regular music nights and a weekly quiz.

"I'm a big supporter of local breweries and I'm going to bring in more beers from the best Bristol has to offer, as well as some from further afield.

"New Year's Eve is cancelled for me as I'll be busy hammering away and giving the pub a fresh lick of paint, but I'm really keen to open on Friday before people head back to work.

"I own pubs that I would like to visit myself; I love good old fashioned pubs like this one and I can't wait to get up and running."

The St George's Road watering hole is known for its somewhat bizarre affection for Nicolas Cage and Stephen said that will continue, with the sign which has the Hollywood star's face emblazoned on it staying put.

"There's a lot of love for that sign so it's going nowhere," he said.

"Perhaps I'll give Nicolas a tweet to see if he wants to come down to the relaunch, although he's probably a little busy."

There will be no food initially but Stephen is keen to welcome a pop-up in the kitchen in the near future.
