Bristol pub run by same family for 25 years put up for sale

A Bristol pub run by the same family for almost 25 years has been put on the market.

The Mechanics Arms on Clouds Hill Road, St George, is a popular community pub with a loyal local clientele attracted by the pool table, darts and beer garden.

A Victorian-built pub in a residential area, it’s close to St George’s Park and local shops.

Property agents Fleurets is marketing the property, which is a freehold, with an asking price of £315,000.

The semi-detached property also has four-bedroom owners’ accommodation on the first and second floors. To the rear is a large tiered garden.

St George has become an increasingly popular area for homebuyers and there are a number of successful pubs in the area including The Dark Horse and The Old Stillage. Run by the Hallard family for the best part of a quarter century, The Mechanics Arms is popular with locals because of its Sky Sports coverage.

Earlier this year, a planning application was submitted for the pub to be turned into six modern apartments but this was met with a number of objections from locals worried about the lack of parking but also concerned that another community pub might be lost.

Describing the pub, Fleurets writes: "The property comprises a semi detached public house arranged over basement, ground, first and second floors.

"The property is of brick construction under a pitched tiled roof and provides trade areas at ground floor and extremely well presented owners' accommodation at the first and second floors. To the rear is a large tiered garden currently utilised as external trade areas.

"The business has been operated by the same family for approaching 25 years and has acted as a community local throughout that period.

"The business benefits from having a large residential catchment surrounding and is well positioned to attract local trade. There is the added benefit of a large beer garden to the rear."
