Bristol pub owner warns 'Covid is not over' as staff forced to isolate

A Bristol pub has been forced to close "until further notice" following positive coronavirus tests among staff.

The Green Man, on Alfred Place in Kingsdown, said its Covid policy would "remain the same for the foreseeable future".

The outbreak was confirmed yesterday (Monday, July 19) as venues across the city celebrated so-called "Freedom Day".

Posted on Twitter, the pub's full update reads: "We are closed due to positive tests and isolating.

"Happy Freedom Day!!! #wearamask #CovidIsNotOver #isolationsensation."

A poster uploaded with the tweet gives customers more information about the closure and what to expect when the venue reopens.

It says: "Due to members of our team self-isolating and testing positive for Covid, we shall be closed until further notice.

"In regards to 'Freedom Day' our policy will remain the same for the foreseeable future."

The Green Man is not the first venue to announce that it will be keeping Covid rules in place.

On July 14, one landlord said he was "in no rush" to fill his pub with people and would be continuing with the measures set on May 17.

He took the stance ahead of Freedom Day, which saw expectant clubbers gather outside venues like Lakota in Stokes Croft, for the countdown to midnight.

But their newfound freedom was slightly marred by the announcement that, by autumn, people will need to be double-jabbed to enter nightclubs and other crowded venues.

Before that happens, The Music Venue Trust has urged gig-goers to take a lateral flow test before attending pubs, clubs and other venues.
