Bristol protest - police traffic warning ahead of children's climate strike

Police have warned drivers to prepare for disruption this morning (Friday, September 24) due to a climate crisis protest by Bristol schoolchildren.

Avon and Somerset Police said the Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate protest could case traffic problems from 11am.

Officers said: "We've been working with organisers to help ensure the protest takes place safely."

Protesters are planning to gather on College Green from 11am in an event organised by Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate - the first such action since Greta Thunberg visited in February 2020.

The group said in an announcement about the protest "No meaningful efforts to halt the climate and ecological crisis have happened since our last strike."

The full tweet from Avon and Somerset Police reads: "A planned protest in Bristol city centre this morning (Friday 24 Sept) may cause some traffic disruption from 11am.

"We've been working with organisers to help ensure the protest takes place safely."
