Bristol project to build homes pulled over coronavirus outbreak

A Bristol project to build flats on under-used land in Speedwell has been withdrawn until further notice following the coronavirus outbreak.

This week Bristol Live reported property company Beaumont Homes was crowdfunding £400,000 to develop 10 two-bedroom apartments next to the Argyle Morley United Reformed Church on Whitefield Road.

But managing director Edward Morgan says the business has now taken the “hard decision” to put the project on hold because of "market uncertainty".

He said: “Unfortunately in the light of the Coronavirus outbreak we have taken the hard decision under discussion with our investors to withdraw the project until further notice.”

Beaumont, which is based in South Gloucestershire, has so far raised £30,000 from seven investors to build the development.

The company had previously said it was forecasting a return of 37 per cent for investors over 18 months.

The plan was for all the flats to be available under the government's help to buy scheme.

It is not known when the project will be relaunched.
