Bristol police officers attacked after 'simple traffic stop' turned violent

Two Avon and Somerset Police officers ended up being attacked after a "simple traffic stop" turned violent. The incident is thought to have happened just before midnight last night (Saturday) in Bristol.

Officers stopped a suspected drink driver during a late-night patrol. However, the driver reportedly refused to give a breath sample and then assaulted two police officers.

Thankfully, the officers involved were not badly injured in the altercation. The driver was taken into custody for the night where "charges await" in the morning.

The incident was recounted by Avon and Somerset Police officer Joe Iles in a statement posted on Twitter during the early hours of Sunday. He said: "Simple traffic stop turns into a Drink Driver, fail to provide and then assaults two police officers (They are ok).

"Driver now in custody but unfortunately their behaviour hasn’t improved. Charges await in the morning."
