Bristol parks make it to shortlist for UK's favourite parks

Several parks in the Bristol area have made it to a shortlist of the UK's favourite parks. Fields in Trust is creating the list to "shine a light on the green spaces that hold a special place".

Any park placing within the top 20 per cent of nominations will receive recognition as a "Local Favourite". You can vote for your favourite park until noon on Thursday here.

Fields in Trust champions and supports parks and green spaces by protecting them for people to enjoy in perpetuity. Here are the parks in the Bristol area that have made the shortlist and comments about them:

St George's Park

Church Road, Whitehall

"This park has taken me through the lockdowns with my first born. And then through my pregnancy to my second baby girl. It has been a blessing to have a large and beautiful green space. My daughter has learned to walk through the gorgeous trees, I’ve met and made friends."

Eastville Park

Fishponds Road, Eastville

"It's very well kept, has a fabulous community hut, good children's play area, is a good size to walk around, has a lovely lake with wildlife."

Oldbury Court Estate

Oldbury Court Road, Bristol

"This park has something for everyone. Children's area, beautiful walks down to the river Frome, leading to snuff mills. Open spaces, car park, café."

Page Park

Staple Hill, South Gloucestershire

"This is the most beautiful park I have ever had the privilege to visit and have directly in front of my home. The Friends of this park are dedicated to making it spectacularly well cared for by volunteers."

Hangstones Playing Field

Stowey Road, Yatton

"I think its simply a fantastic local amenity. Sports pitches, play area, adventure play, exercise equipment, skate park, BMX track, wild flower area, orchard, long grass, lots of trees, plenty of benches to sit on, and a nice flat path for people of all abilities to use."
