Bristol parents respond to possible circuit-breaker lockdown

It's anticipated the Government could impose a circuit-breaker lockdown in England next week to curb rising coronavirus infections.

Some scientists have warned the newly-announced three tier local alert system does not go far enough, and only universal measures have any chance of slowing the second wave.

Earlier this week, Sir Keir Starmer called for the national lockdown of up to three weeks to coincide with half term - starting next Friday.

The Labour leader said we are 'at a decisive moment in the fight' against the virus.

He said it would mean that "all pubs, bars and restaurants would be closed" and compensated "so that no business loses out because of the sacrifices we all need to make".

The possible move has massively divided Bristol parents, with some in favour, and others adamantly against.

One person wrote on Facebook: "Get every child access to online and yes. Otherwise, it's more and more people dying."

While a mum said: "Absolutely think yes! It’s not to get rid of Covid, this is where people are confused. A lockdown will push it along, slow it down until we have a vaccine."

And another mum said: "Given the experts are pleading for it, yes. But there needs to be proper support in place."

However, some parents were vehemently against the plan."

One mum wrote: "The whole thing is wrong.

"People locked away in their tiny homes with kids, no gardens, no help around them.

And someone else said: "No. Keeping children prisoners is not the way forward."
