Bristol nightclub to host Matt Hancock 'leaving drinks'

A Clifton Triangle nightclub is set to host an event titled "Matt Hancock's Leaving Drinks".

The Health Secretary resigned on June 26 after breaching social distancing guidance by kissing Department of Health colleague Gina Coladangelo. He was replaced by Easton-raised Sajid Javid.

Gravity, on Queens Road, plans to celebrate the West Suffolk MP's departure from the cabinet with a reopening party at 12.01am on "Freedom Day", July 19.

The Facebook page for the event shows 70 people have marked themselves as going and 518 more are "interested".

The "leaving drinks" are planned as part of a BED Mondays student night. If the Government lifts restrictions as scheduled, it will be the first time Gravity has opened since the first coronavirus lockdown.

The event description reads: "ORDER, ORDER... MR HANCOCK HAS LEFT THE BUILDING.

"It's time to rejoice, girls and boys, [Mr Hancock's] leaving drinks are underway."

It adds: "As Shaggy once said, 'I'm sorry for breaking social distancing rules'... or something like that."

The description promises one room of grime, trap, R'n'B, UK garage, hip hop and D'n'B, and another room of house, disco and club classics.

It continues: "At exactly one minute past midnight we will be opening the sacred doors of Gravity for the first time in over 18 months, and we hope to see you there.

"Tickets are extremely limited and will go in record time, see you on the dance floor beauts!"

There is capacity for 1,000 revellers, with free McDonald's nuggets (or "nuggies"), a pit with 70,000 balls, carbon dioxide cannons, LED walls and a fancy dress photobooth.

The first release tickets cost £5 plus a £1 booking fee. The final release tickets are £6 and a £1 booking fee.
