Bristol nightclub Motion reopening plans - venue 'more optimistic than ever'

An award-winning nightclub in Bristol has announced its plans to reopen, one year after having to close for the first national coronavirus lockdown.

Motion attracts ravers from all over the UK thanks to its first-rate sound system, sprawling warehouse layout and consistently impressive lineups, but like many night-time venues across the country its doors have been shut since March 2020.

However that will change next month when the St Philip's clubbing Mecca, which was named the best large club in the UK at the DJ Mag Best of British Awards 2018, makes a triumphant return.

It plans to stage its first open-air seated event on April 16, four days after coronavirus measures are eased as part of the Government's four-step roadmap plan to exit lockdown.

Lineups for the "smaller intimate performances" are expected to be announced next week.

Motion co-director Martin Page said: "It has been a long and winding road and it's just short of a whole year since we last opened our doors to the public.

"After we shelved plans for outdoor shows in December because of tier bingo, we are really pleased to be able to announce some smaller intimate performances from some of Bristol's best crews to kick-start us back into 2021."

In a statement shared on social media, the club said it was "feeling more optimistic than ever" following the latest Government announcements regarding the easing of lockdown.

In October 2020, Motion received a grant of £884,796 as part of the Government's Culture Recovery Fund to help it plan for reopening - the highest amount awarded to an arts organisation in Bristol.
