Bristol named second best English city for a summer break

With rules on international travel this summer still unclear, many Brits are planning getaways in the UK.

And with all it has to offer, it’s no surprise that Bristol is among the top three best cities for a holiday in England.

Research by Staybridge Suites, part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, found that Bristol and Newcastle are the best cities for a summer break in England after Manchester.

It took into account the summer amenities on offer including rooftop bars, green spaces, swimming areas and waterside activities, ranking them out of ten.

Bristol and Newcastle both scored seven, while London scored just three.

Liverpool followed shortly behind, with a respectable 6.5 out of ten.

In a statement, Staybridge Suites said: “Bristol is famed for its interest in art and culture so it may come as no surprise that the city’s waterside is becoming somewhat of a creative hub.

“Arnolfini Arts showcases a range of contemporary artists through dance events, poetry readings, art exhibitions, a cinema and more.

“Guests can then enjoy a drink and some food in the Harbourside Bar overlooking the water.

“The river Avon also provides visitors with lots of opportunities for fishing, boating and swimming; there are also plenty of outdoor swimming pools to visit, including the historic Bristol Lido.

“This Victorian pool has both a restaurant and outdoor bar offering an experience that is pretty close to Mediterranean… for the south west of England.”

According to results on Booking.com you can stay in Bristol for as little as £27 per night in June this year.

There are also a range of staycation options, including houses, flats and cabins you can book on AirBnb.

Bristol has become well known for its cultural scene and drinking hotspots, with various venues - including Bristol Old Vic - accommodating outdoor seating for eating and drinking under current Covid measures.
