Bristol music venue to close this weekend - but will go out with a bang

Bristol has lost some fantastic music venues in recent years and sadly another is just days away from closing.

It was announced last month that Hy-Brasil Music Club, formerly known as Start The Bus, is set to become an O’Neill's Irish pub.

As both Start The Bus and Hy-Brasil, the Baldwin Street venue provided a vital platform for local bands to showcase their talents and was also popular for its food, especially its decent burgers served at reasonable prices.

But after this weekend it will be erased from Bristol's nightlife scene for good so that work can begin work on transforming the space into O’Neill's.

As you would expect it isn't going out quietly, with a huge day party lined up to ensure it instead goes out with a bang.

Kicking off at 4pm on Saturday (September 28), the free event will include a number of DJs and four fast-rising live bands including Bristol alt-rockers No Violet and 'noise pop' purveyors THUMPER from Dublin.

THUMPER's set at 11pm will be the last ever performance at the venue, meaning the atmosphere is likely to be memorable.

Events manager Rob said: "This event is not just to wave goodbye to a venue, but to also bring Bristol together for a celebration of live music and show the importance of music venues.

"Supporting new artists has always been a key goal here, so I hope that you'll mark Saturday in your diaries and for one final time, catch four incredible new artists on our stage while we throw the biggest party this venue has ever seen."

When the closure was announced a spokesperson from building owners Mitchells & Butlers said: "From time to time we review our estate and take the decision to convert a business to another of our successful brands. We will be converting Hy Brasil to a brand new O’Neill’s Pub in October.

"This is an exciting opportunity for O’Neill’s and we’re sure it will be a great addition to Bristol’s eating and drinking scene."

The full lineup for Saturday:

DJs: 7pm

INDIGOs: 8pm

DJs: 8.30pm

No Violet: 9.30pm
