Bristol mum ‘donkey kicks’ and spits blood at police after vodka binge at Ramshackle

A Brislington mum aimed a “donkey kick” and spat blood at police after a boozy night in the city centre.

Gemma Clarke, of Hungerford Road, threatened to kick one officer “in the f***y” after clubbing with her sister at the O2 Academy and OMG on Frogmore Street.

The 27-year-old, who says alcohol makes her “kick off”, drank six double vodka cranberries, two pints of lager and several Sambuca shots in a three-hour session.

Representing herself, she admitted assaulting four officers and told Bristol Magistrates’ Court today (February 20): “My daughter has cerebral palsy.

“I don’t go out much. I had too much to drink to block everything out.”

How the attacks unfolded

Prosecutor Kevin Blackmore said two officers were alerted to a disturbance on Frogmore Street at 2.35am on February 1.

He added: “The defendant had been stopped by security from entering a pub and became abusive. There were allegations of racist remarks.

“When officers asked for her details, she said, ‘Shut the f*** up.’”

When Special Constable McKimm took hold of her arm to prevent her leaving, Clarke struck him on the torso and back with both her hands.

More police came on the scene as Clarke was taken to the ground, handcuffed and arrested for assaulting an officer.

Clarke asked: “Are you f****** joking me?”

She then arched her head back and spat blood in the direction of Police Constable Hutton, though none hit the officer.

'Donkey kick'

Clarke was taken to Patchway police station and placed in a holding cell, where she continued to be abusive and claimed the officers had assaulted her.

Mr Blackmore said: “The defendant told PC Huddleston, ‘I’m going to kick you in the f***y.’

“She lashed out with a donkey kick to PC Huddleston’s right knee, causing immediate pain but no injury.

“Miss Clarke then kicked out at PC Ratcliffe’s right shin.”

In her police interview, Clarke said she had not been out drinking for a while before that night.

She said she had been thrown out of the O2’s Ramshackle night at 12.30am, before going to OMG with her sister.

Clarke could not remember what happened after that.

Mr Blackmore continued: “She said she always behaves in that manner when she is drunk.

“She also said ‘alcohol makes me kick off’ and offered an apology to the officers concerned.”

In a victim statement, SC McKimm said: “As a Special Constable, I give up my free time to help the community. I do not expect to be assaulted.”

Clarke will be sentenced at the same court on March 20.
