Bristol man died after primary school wall collapsed

A man from Bristol died after a school wall fell on him.

Gary Anstey was working on the structure at Swainswick School near Bath when it collapsed on Tuesday, March 19.

The 57-year-old was rushed to Southmead Hospital by air ambulance but died from his injuries the following day.

In a statement, the workman's family said: "Gary was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend to many.

"We all miss him dearly, and ask that his family be left to grieve in peace.”

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Constabulary said they were investigating the incident alongside the Health and Safety Executive.

The authority said the man died following the collapse of a wall which was being built in a segregated construction site on school grounds.
