Bristol International Jazz and Blues Festival postponed due to coronavirus

A major music festival in Bristol has been postponed due to fears over coronavirus.

Organisers of the Bristol International Jazz and Blues Festival have said the event will not go ahead because of travel restrictions for artists and as doing so would be "ill-advised".

The festival, which has taken place in the city every year since 2012, was due to run between March 26-29 at a number of venues including St George’s, Bristol Folk House, Fiddlers, the O2 Academy and Bambalan.

Highlights of the programme included a performance by renowned saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis and a rendition of every James Bond theme song performed by a live orchestra.

In a statement, organisers of the annual event said they are "in discussion" with artists and venues to see if they can reschedule performances.

The statement reads: "It is with much regret that the producers of the Bristol International Jazz and Blues Festival have taken the decision to postpone the event 26 – 29 March.

"The restrictions on travel from several countries have already impacted some of its artists, but more importantly the Festival feels it has a duty of care to its audiences and performers that makes going ahead in the current situation ill-advised.

"The festival is hugely grateful to all its funders, supporters, artists, venues, staff and volunteers who have supported us to this point, and the team are hugely disappointed that it has had to make this decision.

"The festival is in discussion with artists and venues to explore all options in terms of rescheduling performances to the autumn and will present a revised programme by April."

The statement added full refunds will be offered to those who can’t attend the rescheduled date.

Further information is available on the festival's website and Facebook page.
