Bristol ice-skating rink to open on Christmas Day but numbers are limited - here’s how to book tickets

Bristolians of a certain age will remember the days when you could go ice skating on Christmas Day.

The old skate rink at Frogmore Street used to hold December 25 sessions so popular there were queues to get in.

Bristol Ice Rink closed its doors in 2012 after 46 years so many people in the city haven’t had the chance to get their Christmas Day skates on for almost a decade.

That will all change this year, however, as Planet Ice at Cribbs Causeway has opened bookings for Christmas Day skating sessions.

The Cribbs Causeway attraction is part of a major new development headed up by Baylis Estates and it offers international standard skating facilities designed to accommodate a range of ice related activities and sports.

With capacity for 1,300 spectators, it’s also the new home for Bristol's ice hockey team, The Bristol Pitbulls, who until now had to play their home matches at Oxford Ice Rink since the closure of the former Bristol Ice Rink in Frogmore Street.

Situated at The Venue Leisure Park at Cribbs Causeway just off the M5, the ice rink neighbours venues such as Vue Cinema and Hollywood Bowl, with plenty of parking and strong public transport connections.

Since it opened in November, Planet Ice has welcomed thousands of visitors, many of whom have paid for lessons.

The December 25 ice skating session takes place between 10am and 12noon, and places are limited.

Tickets are £12.20 for adults and children aged between four and 15. Under-fours are £3 and there are also family tickets available. There are discounts if you have an Ice Card.
