Bristol house damaged in fire up for auction

A house gutted by a fire in August 2019 is being put up for auction later today.

The Victorian mid-terrace property in Claremont Street, Easton, has smoke and water damage throughout after a fire broke out in the first floor of the house on Bank Holiday Monday almost two years ago.

Around 15 firefighters attended the blaze and two of them bashed the door down in order to tackle the fire. Thankfully the house was empty when the fire occurred.

The three-bedroom house has a guide price of £165,000 and is going up for sale tonight during a virtual auction.

Despite the fire damage throughout the home Auction House director David Beddoe said that it was mostly superficial.

He added: “I don’t think it’s that bad. None of the structural timbers are obviously scorch-marked.

"It looks a lot worse than it actually is."

Mr Beddoe said that someone looking to renovate a house could replace and do up the inside of the building.

“I don’t think you’re going to do any more work in there than somewhere that wasn’t fire damaged,” he added.

According to Mr Beddoe the house had seen a lot of interest from builders and investors which he said is likely due to the location.

“It’s definitely one of those areas that attracts a lot of interest,” he said.

The house is located in the Easton area, which was previously voted one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world due to its neighbourly atmosphere and diverse mix of cultures.

The auction will take place online this evening at 7pm and can be accessed through Auction House’s website.
