Bristol Hippodrome Calendar Girls performance abandoned after audience member 'falls ill'

A show at Bristol Hippodrome was abruptly cancelled after an audience member fell ill during the interval.

The medical incident took place yesterday evening (July 9) during a performance of Calendar Girls The Musical.

One member of the audience said it became apparent something was wrong during the show's interval.

"There was an announcement apologising for the delay and saying there's been a medical emergency," she said.

"Nobody knew what was going on. Some people were leaving the theatre."

It was then announced that the show had been cancelled and an ambulance was on its way.

The theatre has apologised to theatre-goers for the "inconvenience" caused by the incident.

"The Bristol Hippodrome has taken the difficult decision to cancel tonight's performance of Calendar Girls The Musical after an audience member was taken ill during the interval. We wish the gentleman a speedy recovery," a spokeswoman said.

"We can confirm all patrons attending tonight's show will be able to rebook to another date of their choosing. The Bristol Hippodrome's box office will contact patrons directly to discuss.

"We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience caused by tonight's cancellation."
