Bristol family stranded in Barcelona airport for 12 hours due to 'fault' with easyJet plane

A Bristol family have been stranded at a Barcelona airport for more than 12 hours because of a "technical fault" with their plane.

Dave Crook and his family were meant to touch down at Bristol Airport late last night (August 15) after a holiday to Spain.

However, they have been forced to sleep on the floor of the departure lounge in Barcelona instead after their easyJet flight back home was delayed.

Mr Crook said around 150 people, mostly families, had to sleep in the airport overnight while hotels were found for prioritised passengers.

The family were initially kept waiting on the runway for around three hours before being told to return to the departure lounge.

The father-of-two told Bristol Live that he feels the airline haven't provided enough support or guidance for the stranded families.

He said "We were told it was a technical fault with the plane.

"There's been no organisation or duty of care, it seems like there's no back-up plan.

"My two daughters are finding it pretty horrible, it's hard to sleep on the floor.

"We've gone through hell. Nobody is losing their rag but everyone is sick and tired."

The family are now expected to get a flight back to Bristol Airport at around 2pm this afternoon (August 16).

What easyJet said

A spokeswoman for easyJet said hotel rooms were prioritised to those most in need of them, such as those requiring special assistance.

We are sorry that flight EZY6030 from Barcelona to Bristol has been delayed overnight due to a technical issue," she said.

“We did all possible to minimise the disruption for our customers and have provided hotel rooms where available, prioritising those most in need of them such as those requiring special assistance and young families.

“Due to high demand there was unfortunately limited hotel availability in the area and so we advised all other passengers if they could find hotel accommodation that this would be reimbursed.

“Some passengers remained in the airport overnight and refreshments vouchers were provided to them.

“We would like to apologise to passengers for the inconvenience experienced."
