Bristol estate agents to become zero waste shop

A handful of zero waste shops have opened in Bristol in recent years, all contributing towards the city becoming more environmentally friendly.

The likes of Smaller Footprints in Clifton and Preserve Foods on Gloucester Road followed in the footsteps of Zero Green, which opened on North Street in February last year.

And this summer, people in east Bristol will also have one on their doorstep, as Preserve is opening a second shop on Church Road, in the site formerly occupied by the Gregory & Main Estate Agents.

With a similar offering to its inaugural Gloucester Road store, Preserve's Church Road site is set to open in mid-August.

Customers will be able to bring their own containers to the shop, which they then fill with goods which are paid for by weight.

The shop will mainly sell vegan and organic wholefoods such as nuts, seeds and herbs, along with plastic-free lifestyle products including soaps, shampoo bars and deodorant.

There will also be machines in store which can be used to make delicious peanut butter and plant milk.

Owner Tiriel Lovejoy said he's looking forward to opening the new shop.

"We opened our first shop last June and it's going really well," said the 46-year-old vegan, who runs the business alongside his wife Helen.

"We didn't plan to expand but after the success of our first shop we got the bug and then began to explore the idea of opening a second.

"We spent six months looking for the perfect location and feel that Church Road is it, as it's a really vibrant and up-and-coming area.

"We can't wait to open the new shop and meet the local community."

Tiriel's brother Sam, who lives in nearby St George, will be joining the business to help run the new store.

Gregory & Main is not closing altogether but is instead relocating to Redland.

A spokesperson for the company said they 'wish the very best for Preserve Foods'.
