Bristol Energy paid out £125K in termination payments to directors

Bristol Energy paid out £125,000 in termination payments for directors who left the company.

The figures were revealed in Bristol Energy’s latest accounts, which were published on Companies House in November.

The accounts show that in the 2018/19 financial year the Bristol City Council-owned firm paid £125,520 on directors’ PILON and termination.

A PILON is a payment made to an employee when employment is terminated without notice, instead of the employee working through a notice period and receiving pay in the normal way.

However, the accounts do not make clear which former directors of the company received this kind of payment and what percentage they took home.

According to the firm's filing history four directors left the company in the 2018/19 financial year.

At least one went onto work for Bristol City Council, but that individual did not receive additional remuneration pay which would have included a PILON payment.

According to the accounts the highest paid director at the time earned £242,346 in the 2018/19 financial year, which included an exit package.

Bristol Energy has said it is not able to comment on any private financial transactions.
