Street art and Bristol go hand-in-hand. It lines the walls of the city where Banksy first made his mark and draws in tourists from far and wide to see the latest world-class pieces.
And now new research has found that Bristol is still the UK’s street art capital outside of London with over 90K Instagram posts. The research conducted by South Western Railway investigates the best places to see street art in the UK by tallying up Instagram hashtags, TikTok views and Google search data of each town and city to award a score out of 100.
Outside of the capital, Bristol leads the UK’s street art movement. Bristol is the second-most Instagrammed city for street art and also the second-most Googled, but the city does slip behind Manchester and Glasgow for TikTok views.
Home to some of the most iconic pieces of street art, such as Banksy’s Mild Mild West, Rose Trap, Grim Reaper and Valentine’s Day, the survey says Stokes Croft and Bedminster showcase some of Bristol’s finest art.
The UK’s most popular location for street art is still London, scoring a perfect 100. The capital trounces all other locations in the study achieving the highest figures for each metric - most notably TikTok views - which award it full marks overall.
Bristol’s total score out of 100 is 36.2. The total number of Instagram hashtags is 90,583 and there were 31,100 TikTok video views.
