Bristol Covid latest as UK records the lowest daily death figure since September

A new Covid death has been recorded in the Bristol region today as the UK records the lowest daily death figure since September.

The area also recorded 66 new cases within the past 24 hours.

Bristol recorded the highest number of new Covid cases at 39.

The Government said a further 17 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday – the lowest daily figure since September 28.

It brings the UK total to 126,172.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 149,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 5,342 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,301,925.

The latest data on deaths

The number of deaths within 28 days of positive coronavirus test in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with any new deaths recorded in brackets.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 218 (no change)

  • Bristol: 466 (no change)

  • North Somerset: 306 (no change)

  • South Gloucestershire: 353 (+1)

The breakdown of new cases

The daily rise in cases for each part of the region is recorded below, with the total figure during the pandemic in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: +7 (8,134)

  • Bristol: +39 (30,197)

  • North Somerset: +7 (9,894)

  • South Gloucestershire : +13 (14,908)

The infection rate for each area

This is for the rolling seven-day period up to March 17, the most recent for which data is available

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 21.2 cases per 100,000 of population
  • Bristol: 46.8 cases per 100,000 of population
  • North Somerset: 31.2 cases per 100,000 of population
  • South Gloucestershire: 41.7 cases per 100,000 of population

How many people have been vaccinated?

Government data up to March 21 shows that of the 30,279,360 jabs given in the UK so far, 27,997,976 were first doses – a rise of 367,006 on the previous day.

Some 2,281,384 were second doses, an increase of 52,612.
