Bristol Covid latest as two new deaths and 120 cases are reported

Two new Covid-related deaths have been confirmed in the Bristol area in the last 24 hours.

The fatalities, which came within 28 days of a positive Covid test, have been reported in the BANES area and in North Somerset (October 6).

These deaths have been recorded along with 120 new cases of the pandemic illness in the city and its surrounding areas.

Nationally, the Government said a further 143 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 137,295.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 161,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 39,851 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to October 5 shows that of the 94,085,830 Covid jabs given in the UK, 49,035,877 were first doses, a rise of 41,347 on the previous day.

Some 45,049,953 were second doses, an increase of 28,572.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 60,320 (+39)
  • North Somerset - 20,155 (+18)
  • South Gloucestershire - 30,740 (+27)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 18,818 (+36)

The total number of deaths recorded in each region are as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 538 (-)
  • North Somerset - 333 (+1)
  • South Gloucestershire - 377 (-)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 238 (+1)
