Bristol Covid latest as hundreds of new cases reported in 24 hours

More than 240 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Bristol and the wider region within the last day according to the latest official figures.

Today's update (Sunday, October 10) showed that another 242 cases of the virus were recorded in the Bristol region.

There were no further deaths confirmed locally today.

The highest number of cases was found in Bristol, where 103 positive tests were found.

The Government said a further 38 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Sunday, bringing the UK total to 137,735.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 161,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 34,574 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to October 9 shows that of the 94,327,179 Covid jabs given in the UK, 49,158,835 were first doses, a rise of 26,157 on the previous day.

Some 45,168,344 were second doses, an increase of 32,755.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 60,860 (+103)
  • North Somerset - 20,407 (+46)
  • South Gloucestershire - 31,022 (+44)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 19,142 (+49)

  • City of Bristol - 540 (-)
  • North Somerset - 335 (-)
  • South Gloucestershire - 379 (-)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 238 (-)
