Bristol Covid latest as 11 cases recorded in city

There have been 11 new coronavirus cases recorded in Bristol over the last 24 hours, the latest government figures show.

Across the West of England region, which also covers South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset and North Somerset, 39 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded today in total.

The Government said a further 27 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the UK total to 127,570.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have been 152,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

The Government also said that, as of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 2,144 lab-confirmed cases in the UK. It brings the total to 4,425,940.

Cases

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with positive test results from the last 24 hours in brackets:

  • Bristol - 30,867 (11 new cases)
  • North Somerset - 10,113 (11 new cases)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 8,258 (five new cases)

  • South Gloucestershire - 15,244 (12 new cases)

Government data up to May 4 shows that of the 50,682,567 jabs given in the UK so far, 34,795,074 were first doses – a rise of 127,170 on the previous day.

Some 15,887,493 were second doses, an increase of 257,486.
