Bristol Covid breakdown according to latest data

Bristol's weekly infection rate has decreased according to the latest data.

The weekly rate in Bristol has dropped from 14.9 cases per 100,000 people to 13.6.

Public Health England has revealed a change to the way cases are being counted.

They say the introduction of a new system disrupted the figures, as it required a removal of cases where a positive rapid lateral flow test was followed by all negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests taken within three days.

As a result, across the UK, 4,776 cases have now been removed.

They add: "Newly-reported cases for the UK and England were unaffected. Historical published date totals have not been changed. Newly-reported cases at regional and local authority level within England are calculated as the daily change in the total number of cases.

"This means that for 18 May 2021, these show significantly lower numbers or zero, and do not reflect the actual number of new cases reported on that date."

Covid cases:

Broken down by area, the number of cases recorded since the pandemic began:

  • Bristol: 30,960
  • South Gloucestershire: 15,294
  • North Somerset: 10,133
  • Bath & North East Somerset: 8,292

Hospital cases

There are now just six people in hospital in Bristol with coronavirus. Two of these were admitted on May 7 and 8 to Southmead Hospital, while four more are being cared for at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Trust, which run the BRI and Weston General Hospital.

The most recent figures for both trusts are for last Tuesday, May 11, and the UHBW Trust report that two of their four Covid patients are on ventilators.
