Bristol coronavirus rate now below national average as cases hit two-month low

Bristol's coronavirus rate has fallen below the national average today (December 8).

Our city's rate per 100,000 people stands at 141.4, which is a slight increase compared to yesterday's 140.5.

Crucially, it places us below England's rate, which has peaked at 149.2.

The virus has claimed another three lives across Bristol today, with a further death being confirmed in Bath and North East Somerset.

Bristol's daily infections have also continued their downward trend, latest figures show.

North Somerset confirmed more cases than Bristol, with 52 in this district.

A further 50 people were diagnosed with the virus on Tuesday in Bristol - the lowest number since October 1 when 52 were recorded.

The latest figures released on Sunday (December 6) show 92 more Covid patients were admitted to hospitals across the South West. This brings the total to 590 inpatients in the region.

UK-wide, 616 further deaths were confirmed in the UK over the past 24 hours, with 12,282 more people testing positive for the virus.

The UK's Covid-19 death toll has reached 62,033.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: +16 (3,843)
  • Bristol: +50 (15,956)
  • North Somerset: +52 (4,390)
  • South Gloucestershire: +43 (6,600)

Vaccine

A 98-year-old man has become the first person to get the Covid-19 vaccine in Bristol.

Jack Vokes received the jab at Southmead Hospital this morning and is among the first in the UK to be immunised.

Today marks the rollout of the coronavirus vaccine at 50 hospital hubs across the county - which includes the North Bristol NHS Trust.
