Bristol coronavirus cases rise as hospitals record no new deaths

No new deaths have been recorded at Bristol's hospitals in their daily coronavirus figures.

The University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust, which runs Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital, total still stands at 143.

While North Bristol NHS Trust - which covers Southmead Hospital - also reported no new deaths on June 18. There have been 118 at the trust.

As for positive Covid-19 tests, Public Health England's figures show both Bristol and North Somerset recorded one more person contracting the virus.

Bristol now has 721 confirmed cases, while North Somerset has 486.

And both Bath and North Somerset and South Gloucestershire have not seen an increase for more than a week (June 9), with the number of cases in these areas standing at 237 and 406 respectively

Nationally, 135 people who tested positive for the coronavirus died, bringing the total number of deaths in hospitals in the UK to 42,288.

The figures have been released on the same day Health Secetrary Matt Hancock shared who would be given priority for the Covid vaccine.

People over the age of 50, frontline workers and the most vulnerable patients will be offered the drug first.

He told the Downing Street briefing drug company AstraZeneca has already started manufacturing a vaccine being produced at Oxford University.
