Bristol coronavirus cases and deaths rise once again - updated figures

Nine more coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Bristol hospitals in one day as the government looks set to relax lockdown rules.

The latest figures show 176 people have now lost their lives after contracting Covid-19 and being admitted to either University Hospitals Bristol or North Bristol Trust.

The updated data showed 167 people died in our city's hospital after being diagnosed with the deadly virus.

In total, Southmead Hospital reported 97 deaths while Bristol Royal Infirmary recorded 79.

Bristol now has 651 confirmed coronavirus cases following a rise of 11 people in one day.

As of May 7 at 5.14pm, Public Health England's figures show 366 positive tests have been confirmed in South Gloucestershire, a rise of 5.

Meanwhile, North Somerset recorded 276 cases following a spike of 16.

And in Bath and North East Somerset only one more case was confirmed, bringing the district's total to 220.

The Prime Minister is due to make a national address on Sunday (May 10), when it's expected lockdown rules will be eased from the following day.

Downing Street has now confirmed Boris Johnson's speech will take place at 7pm, on the BBC and Sky News.

The announcement comes in the same week the UK recorded the highest death toll in Europe. As on Thursday, 30,076 have died in the UK after contracting Covid-19.
