Bristol coronavirus area-by-area breakdown as UK marks first lockdown anniversary

Eighty new cases of coronavirus were recorded across the Bristol region - as the UK marked the anniversary of the first national lockdown.

Bristol recorded the highest number of new Covid cases at 45, according to Government figures announced on Tuesday (March 22) - up from 39 yesterday.

Meanwhile no new deaths were reported across the region's hospitals in NHS England's latest update.

Nationwide, the Government said a further 112 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.

It brings the UK total to 126,284.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 149,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 5,379 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,307,304.

The latest data on deaths

The number of deaths within 28 days of positive coronavirus test in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with any new deaths recorded in brackets.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 218 (no change)

  • Bristol: 466 (no change)

  • North Somerset: 306 (no change)

  • South Gloucestershire: 353 (no change)

The breakdown of new cases

The daily rise in cases for each part of the region is recorded below, with the total figure during the pandemic in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: +4 (8,138)

  • Bristol: +45 (30,242)

  • North Somerset: +8 (9,902)

  • South Gloucestershire : +23 (14,931)

The infection rate for each area

This is for the rolling seven-day period up to March 18, the most recent for which data is available

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 22.2 cases per 100,000 of population
  • Bristol: 50.9 cases per 100,000 of population
  • North Somerset: 30.2 cases per 100,000 of population
  • South Gloucestershire: 37.2 cases per 100,000 of population

How many people have been vaccinated?

Government data up to March 22 shows that of the 30,691,557 jabs given in the UK so far, 28,327,873 were first doses – a rise of 329,897 on the previous day.

Some 2,363,684 were second doses, an increase of 82,300.
