Bristol construction company behind Bear Woods at Wild Place Project collapses into administration

The company that built the new brown bears exhibit at the Wild Place Project in Bristol has gone into administration.

Dribuild on Hawkfield Way collapsed on Friday, October 4, blaming "insurmountable funding challenges” for its failure.

The company employs 35 staff and 30 employees are being made redundant.

Neil Vinnicombe and Simon Haskew of corporate recovery firm Begbies Traynor will oversee the administration and will keep on five members of the team during the process.

Dribuild has worked on projects across Bristol including the new access path at Keynsham station, Bristol Royal Infirmary’s Dental CLEFT Clinic and the Yate Riverside retail centre.

The company has nine live projects that are currently unfinished, according to the administrators.

Neil, partner at Begbies Traynor in Bath, said: “It is always sad to see a business with a strong reputation and order book succumb to financial difficulties, especially when there are redundancies involved.

"As such, we are hopeful of working with existing customers to assist them to complete contracts in progress and help as much of the business’ highly skilled workforce as possible to find alternative employment.”

The brown bears exhibit opened in July and Dribuild buried a time capsule at the site containing animal biographies, environmental documents reflecting the world in 2019, a photo of a mural painting of Greta Thunberg, and a jar of conservational wishes for the future from Wild Place Project staff.

Dribuild was founded in 2008 and just last year was named on the London Stock Exchange’s 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain.
