Bristol Co-op supermarket set to close down in 'real loss to the community'

A Co-operative Food supermarket in Bishopston will permanently close.

The store on Gloucester Road will shut its doors next Friday (January 24).

One shopper, who wished to be anonymous, said: "This is a real loss to the community, especially older people in the area who have accessibility issues."

Bristol Live has asked the Southern Co-op how many staff will be affected by the closure.

The supermarket hit headlines in 2017 when masked raiders smashed a car into the shop-front and pulled a gun on a staff member, before making off with cash.

A campaign raised £175 to support the employee, in a Justgiving appeal which praised the staff as "always kind, helpful and dedicated".
