Co-op store asks people to stop coming in four times a day

A Henbury Co-op supermarket has asked customers to only visit once a day during the coronavirus pandemic.

An image of a sign requesting shoppers limit their visits to the Station Road branch was shared on Reddit yesterday (May 12) and has since been viewed more than 3,000 times.

The notice, which had been written all in capitals and placed near the vegetable aisle, said: "Have you been in here already today??

"Are you buying essential goods?? We are constantly cleaning to ensure it's the safest environment possible for colleagues, community.

"Too often we are seeing customers three or four times a day?? Please only visit once a day.

"Regards, Team Henbury."

When Bristol Live visited the store at 10am today, the sign had been removed.

The Co-op says it was a decision by the store to put up the sign and the "vast majority" of Co-op shoppers have been following Government advice to limit contact with people and stay safe.

Under lockdown restrictions, people are only allowed to leave their home for:

  • Shopping for basic necessities
  • Exercise, including with members of the same household
  • Travelling to and from work if it cannot be done at home
  • Providing care to someone who is vulnerable
  • Fleeing harm - such as domestic abuse.
