Staff at a Co-operative Food supermarket in Bishopston were reportedly given just over a week's notice ahead of its closure.
The store on Gloucester Road will shut its doors on Friday, January 24, affecting nine employees.
A source close to the staff said it was "heartbreaking" that they were given "little more than a week's notice".
She added: "It seems the company that prides itself on giving back to the community has very little concern for their welfare or futures of their loyal staff."
A Southern Co-op spokesperson did not respond to the claim of short notice, but said the decision to close the store "has not been taken lightly".

They added: "The nine colleagues affected by this closure are part of the local community and have done much to support local community groups and causes and this support will continue through our other stores in Bristol.
"We will work to transfer as many colleagues as possible to other Southern Co-op stores but appreciate this may not be feasible for all.
"The decision to close this store was only made after exhausting all other options and in no way reflects the hard work of colleagues in the store."
