Bristol club Lakota announces 'B******s to Boris!' party after Tory leadership contest result

Unless you pay literally no attention to politics - or social media - you will probably be aware Boris Johnson is the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

The former Mayor of London and MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip won the Tory leadership contest in emphatic fashion, securing almost double the number of votes as rival Jeremy Hunt.

While there are many people in the country who are no doubt thrilled at his appointment - including the 92,153 people who voted for him, of course - there are others who aren't quite so enthusiastic.

A number of Bristol MPs were quick to share their dismay, and of course, there were many more people on social media who penned disgruntled messages, which led to the hashtag #NotMyPrimeMinister trending on Twitter.

And it would seem one of Bristol's most legendary nightclubs is also less-than-pleased about Mr Johnson's appointment.

'B******s to Boris!'

Shortly after the result was announced, Lakota in Stokes Croft organised an event entitled 'B******s to Boris!' which, you probably don't need telling, is very much anti-Boris.

Club manager James Haggart said: "Although we understand that as a club we can't be too overtly political, this latest news is something we simply couldn't be impartial to.

"I think we speak for most when we say that having a carbon copy of Trump as our Prime Minster is frightening.

"In true Lakota form we thought we'd try to spin a bit of a laugh out of the disastrous state of our political climate, otherwise we'd just cry.

"We plan to royally take the mick out of this shambles of a situation, and have lined up some fun on the night to do that."

According to the Facebook event page, the event is planned for August 30.

What the night will include:

  • Cut-outs and face masks of Boris Johnson will be handed out
  • The 'finest Bristolian musical talent' will play 'Great British music' all night long
  • Free Eton Mess will be handed out at 2am
  • Latin lessons in room 4, with a 'dance teacher and cane' included

The South West branch of the Conservative Party declined to comment. Bristol Live has also contacted Boris Johnson's office.

More information can be found on the Facebook event page.
