Bristol clinic giving out cannabis prescriptions by Zoom

A Redland clinic is now licensed to prescribe medical cannabis through Zoom calls.

Last year MyAccess Clinics in Redland Court Road's May Wellness Centre became the UK's second cannabis clinic to get a Care Quality Commission (CQC) licence.

Now it has received an extended licence to hold video consultations with patients because of the coronavirus lockdown.

It has remotely prescribed cannabis to five patients since obtaining the licence last week.

The consultations are available to anyone with an Internet connection in the UK, though most patients are based in Bristol and surrounding areas.

Prescriptions can be given for health issues such as chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety and depression.

Initial consultations cost £150 and follow-ups cost £50.

If a patient is found to be suitable for a prescription, they can pick it up from pharmacies such as Boots, which would place an order from a wholesaler.

Clinical director Graham Woodward said: “We have adapted our services to meet rising patient demand during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Patients will receive treatment for their chronic health conditions with legitimately sourced, high quality medical cannabis through our licensed telehealth offering.”

The CQC registration allows for home care for those too unwell to travel. MyAccess physicians will be made available for home care services once the lockdown is lifted.
