Bristol City youngster suffers long injury setback before imminent Swindon Town loan

Bristol City youngster Saikou Janneh has suffered a long injury setback, shortly before he was due to be loaned out to Swindon Town.

The 20-year-old forward, who had been on loan at Torquay United, suffered an ankle ligament injury during a match on Saturday (January 4) against Dagenham and Redbridge.

He announced the news of his injury on Twitter, and said: "Unfortunately I will be out for 3 months due to a ligament injury in my ankle on Saturday which I will need a surgery for but I will be back stronger, another set back but we move."

Bristol Live understands that the academy product was due to head out on his second loan spell of the season, this time heading to top of League Two Swindon Town.

Swindon have just suffered their own January transfer window blow up front, with top scorer Eoin Doyle being recalled by parent club Bradford City.

And with Janneh now injured, that loan move will not go ahead and the young forward will spend the next three months recovering from the setback.

Janneh scored two goals in 10 appearances in all competitions for Torquay during his loan spell this season, and impressed enough to earn himself a loan in a league above.

The forward was due to head on loan to League One Doncaster Rovers at the start of the season, however a knee injury scuppered that move before it could be completed.

The Gambian impressed for City in pre season and Robins boss Lee Johnson is keen for him to get regular football before being integrated into the first team squad.

Tyreeq Bakinson and Hakeeb Adelakun have already left the Robins for loan spells at Plymouth Argyle and Rotherham respectively, expected to be followed by young forward Antoine Semenyo.
