Bristol City youngster moves on loan to League Two club

Rory Holden has moved on loan to Walsall.

The Bristol City winger has been on trial at the Bescot Stadium over the past two weeks, and traveled with the Saddlers for their recent training camp in Poland.

It is the 21-year-old's third loan spell since joining the Robins from home town club Derry City in 2017, having also spent time at Barrow and Rochdale.

Holden will link up with Robins teammate Cameron Pring, who moved to Walsall earlier this month.

His loan is set to last for the season, although the Robins do have an option to recall him in January.

Speaking about the move, Holden said he was looking forward to getting some minutes.

He told Walsall's website: "I’m buzzing to be here and to finally get the move over the line.

"I am a winger who likes to get on the ball and create chances for other players and try and chip in with a few goals.

"The week away [in Poland] with the group was perfect for me. The boys really helped me settle in because they’re a really open and honest group.

"It is the perfect time for me to come out on loan to help me develop as a player.

"The manager wants me to go out on the pitch and just express myself, gain some experience in the Football League and to try and excite the fans."

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke said Holden significantly adds to his options at the Bescot.

He said: "Rory is a left-footed wide player and that’s his best position in a 4-3-3, coming inside onto his left foot.

"We’ve worked with him now for a couple of weeks and had a good look at him. His attitude has been spot on and he came on the Poland trip and played very well in the game out there.

"I know Lee Johnson has spoken highly of him and he gives me different options for a different formation."
