Bristol City youngster Antoine Semenyo to miss Leeds United curtain-raiser

Bristol City face the prospect of having just two senior strikers available as they host Leeds United on the opening weekend.

Famara Diedhiou and Matty Taylor will be the only out-and-out front men in the squad, unless a touted move to Charlton comes to fruition for the latter.

Saikou Janneh faces a spell on the sidelines with a meniscus knee injury - as exclusively revealed by Bristol Live on Monday - while fellow youngster Antoine Semenyo is unavailable through suspension.

The 19-year-old prospect was sent off as Bristol City lost 2-0 at home to Derby County to end their play-off hopes at the back end of last season.

Semenyo was dismissed following a lunge on Rams midfielder Tom Huddlestone on the hour mark.

The controversial straight red resulted in a three-match ban, of which he has served two games - missing the Robins' final two fixtures of 2018/19.

However, he must now serve a third and will be unavailable for the big game against the Whites, limiting Lee Johnson's options up top.

The Bristol City head coach has made no secret of his desire to sign at least one more attacker this summer, but the search is proving difficult.

The Robins boss may be tempted use forward Andi Weimann in a more central role on Sunday should Diedhiou misfire, rather than out wide.
